About the Network
GT&T's Frame Relay Network is installed parallel to the Public
Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) specifically to carry high-speed
data traffic between two or more locations. This was done because
of the demands of our customers to establish data links between
their various locations, and the high cost of conventional point
to point networks. It is made up of Nortel Networks Passport Switches
inter-linked by fibre optic cables and E1 Circuits. Frame Relay
is available in most of the towns and all the major business centres
in Guyana. Traffic on the network is carried over Permanent Virtual
Circuits and can support speeds of up to 155Mbps.
Benefits of using GT&T Frame Relay
1. It reduces your networking cost.
Reduced access and connection cost show immediate savings. The cost
and benefits of connecting to our network is less than connecting
your network by point to point methods of a similar speed and quality.
In your current network configuration, linking all your sites would
require multiple physical connections at each location. With our
network we provide this same capability with one single physical
connection at each location including Head Office.
2. Improves performance and availability of your network.
The network is supported by fibre optic cables that are known for
their reliability, speed and security as a communications medium.
As a result the performance of your network will improve as compared
to the wireless modems which are subject to interference from the
weather, vegetation, radio frequencies and tall buildings.
3. Simplifies your network management.
As the service provider, GT&T is responsible for keeping the
network up 24 hours a day, hence reducing your work to the minimum.
The network is managed by us at no extra cost to you.
4. You can take advantage of frame relay's bandwidth flexibility.
Bandwidth is dynamically allocated allowing for bursting over the
purchase rate. Peak traffic hours are still handled by the network
"for free." This is unlike lease lines and wireless systems
where the bandwidth is fixed and you must plan and purchase bandwidth
for the maximum traffic load.
5. Voice Over Frame Relay is one of the benefits of using frame
relay networks.
6. Multi-protocol support including full TCP/IP support.
7. Changes to your network topology can be made without a visit
to your premises.
8. Fibre provides secure, error-free and fast transmission of
your data.
